The PLAN_C is a multidisciplinary design firm that focuses on architectural projects ranging in scale from furniture design to strategic urban proposals. We approach each project as an investigation into the possibilities of design, from concept to construction with a spirit of experimentation and emphasis on the rational process of realization.
We are firmly committed to craft and detail as cornerstones to the principles of construction, embracing the dialectic that differentiates architecture from other arts. We are interested in material systems that evolve thorough investigation of available technology.

BIO

Yoon Choi holds a MArch. in Advanced Architectural Design from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Architecture from Yonsei University in Seoul. She began her career at Hanul Architects before moving to New York to pursue her graduate studies. After Columbia, she joined Rafael Vinoly Architects, where she was a core member of facade system team for Samsung Jong Ro Tower. She later joined Thomas Phifer and Partners and contributed to winning the Citation Award in 1999 Progressive Architecture Awards for ’Takhanic Residence’. In 1999 she moved to London and worked to complete her experiences, from interior refurbishments to mixed-use office development in Antwerp, Pudong, Shanghai, under practices as Richard Rogers Partnership, Foster and Partners and Fletcher Priest Architects.

Since 1996, she carried various projects under Yoon Choi Architects. She came back to Korea in 2005 and founded PLAN_C architects. In 2009 PLAN_C architects won the first prize in ‘The International Idea Competition for Museum of Contemporary Art at Seoul’ and was invited as one of the five finalists for ‘The Architectural Competition for Museum of Contemporary Art in Seoul.’ She was the jury member for ‘Korean Institute of Architect’s Award’ in 2009 and for the “National Exhibition of Korean Architects’ Competition’ in 2011. She has also played a key role as a chief client adviser for KT (Korea Telecommunication)  for their headquater located on Sejong-ro assisting them to select an architect, the Pritzker prize winner, Renzo Piano through design development stage from 2010 to 2011.  Most recently, she won the second prize in ‘International Idea Competition for the First Step to Changing the Mapo Oil Reserve Base’ in September, 2013 with the proposal ‘SITy: Seoul Information Tank’.

She has taught architectural design studio  at various universities as Yonsei University, University of Seoul and Kunkuk University. She recently graduated the ‘Wood University’, the educational program for wood construction experts, which is supported by Canada Wood and Korea Wood Construction Association in September 2012.

She is a registered architect in US and Korea.

최윤정은 연세대학교 건축공학과를 졸업한 후에 한울건축에서 실무를 익힌 뒤 도미하여 뉴욕 콜럼비아대 건축대학원을 졸업하였다. 미국 라파엘 비뇰리 사무실에서 삼성 종로타워 커튼월 디자인의 핵심멤버였으며 이후 토마스 파이퍼 앤드 파트너스에서 근무하면서 타카닉 레지던스가 프로그레시브 건축상을 수상하는데 기여하였다. 1999년 런던으로 이주하여 리차드 로저스, 노먼 포스터, 플레쳐 프리스트 아키텍츠 등과 같은 사무실들을 거치면서 다양한 규모와 여러 종류의 건축에 대한 실무경력을 쌓았다. 2002년 미국 뉴욕주의 건축사 자격증을 획득하였다.

1996년 이래 최윤건축을 설립해 활동한 바 있다. 2005년 귀국 후 플랜씨 건축을 설립하였다. 2009년 ‘국립현대미술관 서울관 국제현상설계공모’에서 최우수상을 수상하였으며 이 후 ‘국립현대미술관 지명현상설계공모전’에 지명 건축가로 초청되어 참여하였다. 2009년 한국건축가협회상 선정과 2011년 제 30회 대한민국 건축대전의 심사위원을 역임하였다. 2009년부터 2011년까지, KT 건축 자문위원장으로 일하면서, 프리츠커 수상 건축가인 렌조 피아노가 세종로에 위치한 KT 본사 신축 프로젝트 디자이너로 선정되어 건축설계를 진행하는 과정에 이르기까지 프로젝트의  합리적 실현을 위해 전문적인 자문을 지원하였다. 2013년 9월에  ‘마포석유비축기지 활용방안 국제아이디어 공모전’에서 ‘SITy: Seoul Information Tank’로 은상을 수상하였다.

연세대학교 건축학과, 서울시립대학교, 건국대학교 등에서 건축 디자인 스튜디오를 가르쳐 왔으며, 2012년 9월에 캐나다우드와 한국목조건축협회에서 주관하는 목조건축 전문가교육과정인 우드유니버시티를 졸업하였다.
