The Chalet H is a private holiday residence located in picturesque hillside with stunning view of Mt. Yotei over the abundant natural forest in Niseko, Hokkaido. The building mass is slightly bent to secure the view towards the Mt. Yotei. The 2.7 meter ceiling height throughout the house emphasizes seamless continuity to surrounding nature. The vertical solid wood siding will give the simple mass various shades of different color due to their different aging process.
The fireplace is the heart of the house around which the family and their visitors will gather. The guest quarter and kids bedrooms are on the first floor while master bedroom and the living and dining room is on the second floor where the best view of the Mt. Yotei and forest landscape unfolds as background beyond the large glass panels. Moving from the first floor to the second floor, unobstructed view to outside gives feeling of stepping outside in this compactly composed house. One can enjoy the surrounding nature everywhere in the house.
